GIVING BACK TO K’GARI

Another incredible weekend over on K'gari (Fraser Island, QLD) for the annual island clean-up, with the Yakima crew joining forces with Opposite Lock, Roof Racks Galore and hundreds of passionate volunteers to help protect one of Australia’s most iconic outdoor destinations.

This year’s event brought together more than 470 volunteers and over 350 vehicles, all working together to remove rubbish from beaches and tracks right across the island. In total, an incredible 4.8 tonnes of waste was collected across 107km of coastline.

Yakima teamed up with Roof Racks Galore and the All 4x4 Club Gold Coast to clean a 4km stretch of beach, where microplastics and discarded commercial and recreational fishing gear once again proved to be some of the biggest contributors collected throughout the day. One volunteer group even recovered a single rope weighing an astonishing 650kg from the shoreline.

Events like this are a powerful reminder that protecting these places takes real community effort. It was great to see so many people and brands come together with the same goal, leaving K’Gari better than we found it.

Outside the clean-up, the weekend included the crews taking the opportunity to experience some of what makes the island so special. The run north included stops through some of K’Gari’s most iconic locations, including Champagne Pools, Eli Creek and the famous SS Maheno shipwreck, mixed in with beach runs, inland tracks, salty air and plenty of good times along the way.

Back at camp, the day wrapped up the right way with beach volleyball, plenty of laughs and the annual Roof Racks Galore burger night.

A massive thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting the weekend. Great people, a great cause and another reminder of why we all love getting outdoors in the first place.

Special thanks to Uniden, Survival First Aid and Muk Mat for helping keep the crew connected, safe and clean throughout the trip.

Take It Easy.
